Task
Construction of a third treatment stage for the waste water from the production of graphic paper and corrugated cardboard tube paper for a leading European manufacturer.
Design data
Waste water volume:
- 700 m³/h
Solution & implementation
To further remove carbon and nitrogen compounds and retain particulate matter, we have used our biologically activated ALMA BHU BAF filtration system.
Organic compounds and nitrogen are removed from the wastewater with the help of microorganisms. The BAF method uses clay-based beads for filtration and as growth bodies for sessile microorganisms. Denitrification and nitrification are carried out in downstream concrete tanks, with recirculation of the wastewater from nitrification.
The advantages of biological filtration are the approx. 50 % lower space requirement compared to conventional activated sludge processes, as well as the retention of particulate matter without the need for an additional sedimentation stage. With the ALMA BHU BAF, max. 95 % of organic compounds and max. 90 % of nitrogen compounds can be eliminated.
